Did you know that Spanish is the official language of 21 countries? There are 450 million Spanish speakers in the world and it is the fourth most widely spoken language. Not only will Spanish let you communicate with people across the globe and enhance your travel experiences, but it can also improve your employment prospects later in life.
At Seven Sisters Primary School, all our pupils, from Nursery onwards, learn Spanish and enjoy the benefits of starting to learn a foreign language at an early age. We teach through songs, videos, games, interactive activities and lessons based on a practical communicative approach.
Our aim here at Seven Sisters is to ensure that children develop a good basic understanding of Spanish as well as a love for the language. We help them acquire the foundations for further foreign language learning at Key Stage 3 which can lead to a smoother transfer to Secondary School. Excellent pronunciation and intonation are reinforced in every lesson since we believe in a “Talk for writing approach”.
The children are taught how to:
- Ask and answer questions.
- Use correct pronunciation and grammar.
- Memorise words.
- Interpret meaning.
- Understand basic grammar.
- Make use of bilingual dictionaries.
- Work in pairs and groups and communicate in a foreign language.
- Understand Spanish culture and customs.
